Thorn Seyma is renowned in Cambodia as a singer, cultural advocate, and cultural entrepreneur. She is committed to empowering people who live rurally and regionally—especially women, children, and youth—and enabling them to engage with Cambodian cultural practices of all kinds.
With Arn Chorn-Pond, Seyma co-founded the Khmer Magic Music Bus, an initiative to return traditional music and other cultural practices to rural and regional Cambodia, following the cultural destruction of the genocidal Khmer Rouge era. As the Artistic Manager of the Khmer Magic Music Bus, Seyma is driven by a desire that all Cambodian people may discover a vibrant arts sector and participate in fulfilling cultural lives.
In referring to the Khmer Magic Music Bus as a “vehicle,” Arn and Seyma do not only speak literally. They are convinced that, around the world, musical participation facilitates healing, and cultivates hope for a better future.
